A clean look at an old practice.

OMS provides a dedicated UHP Water blasting service to its clients. In tune with both OMS and its clients environmental policies UHP water blasting is the new and innovative approach to age old work practices.

UHP Blasting equipment has seen extensive use in different world markets such as the middle east, Africa and the North sea. OMS has been active for a number of years in these areas assisting major drilling contractors with their maintenance requirements and aiding them through its involvement in moving towards a more eco friendly technology without sacrificing quality. The OMS UHP Section is also actively involved in local heavy industry working hand in hand with its clients to phase out sand and grit blasting.

Our UHP Section is uniquely positioned to capitalise within the Oil and Gas industries with the heightened problems of flammable issues and exacting safety standards in hazardous areas. With OMS's ongoing commitment to training and safety within the Oil and Gas industry and having commissioned it's UHP equipment Zone 2 Safe, OMS can take such parameters confidently in its stride.

UHP Unit
We operate Jetstream 4200 series, 265HP (190kW) units. These are mounted in fully certified containers which have all the required wire rope slings for lifting as well as apertures for forklift. The containers dimensions are 12" by 8" and weigh approximately 7.5 tons. In addition the containers are fully fitted out with cabinets, work bench, hose reels, diesel tank, air compressor, electrics and control panel making them a secure stand alone devise. All PPE, hoses, lances, spares and necessary tools are also accommodated within each unit.

UHP Applications
Our UHP water blasting equipment is hugely versatile. The fluid head can be replaced in a matter of 30 to 40 minutes which means we can modify our output from 450 Bar (6500 psi) at 240 lpm to 2750 Bar (40,000 psi) at 40 lpm. This allows us to provide a huge amount of different tasks from industrial clean, pipe and heat exchanger cleaning, industrial and marine surface preparation, aqua demolition and cold cutting. By far however, the best and most popular application for this technology is surface preparation as a viable, clean alternative to sand and grit blasting.

UHP Performance
The 265hp (190kW) Volvo TAD721VE engine is attached to the Jetstream 4200 series pump. The standard fluid end on the pump is a 40,000 psi head running a number 7 plunger set. This allows us to operate at pressures up to 2750 Bar or 40,000 psi with a flow rate of 40 Litres per minute. We can therefore split the flow and operate 2 lances at the 40,000 psi with each lance producing a flow of 20 litres per minute. Water filtration is a two stage process with a 25 micron bag filter first then through a 3 micron polishing filter before the pump. For safety we have a primary and then a secondary burst disc set at safe limits. Our units also have a spark arrestor attached to the exhaust and Chalwyn valve on the air intake allowing us to be compliant for zone 2 or Rig operations. We operate a tumble box for each of the double triggered lances to dump the water flow if required. The lances themselves are fitted with Barracuda rotating nozzles which are operated under water pressure removing the need for additional pneumatic lines. All of our UHP blasters are fully certified by the WJA (UK Water Jetting Association) and have a minimum of 1 years experience UHP blasting offshore.

UHP Support
We have fully qualified technicians employed with us at all times. Our technicians have undergone extensive training with Jetstream as well as familiarizing themselves fully with the unit during its assembly and testing period in the UK. We also stock all of the consumables for both the engine, pump and lances which will include all filters, regulator valves, plunger packing sets, packing sleeves, guide bushes, plungers, stuffing box seal, hydro throttles and barracuda nozzle seal kits. Jetstream Europe also maintain a fully stocked warehouse in the UK so addition parts can be dispatched immediately. This support in conjunction with brand new machinery will result in minimal downtime.

UHP Cost
OMS will provide the UHP equipment, a qualified technician and qualified UHP blasters for all jobs. The provision of the remaining elements including water, diesel, craneage, scaffolding, etc can be supplied by the client or if a turnkey job is required OMS can quote the entire job including coatings. The service being quoted for, is the use of OMS's UHP equipment and personnel for surface preparation and or industrial cleaning. Once the work scope and work location have been viewed we will produce a per square metre blasted, daily or complete job rate depending on requirements.
